Shopping centerDuisburg, Germany

The former Goods’ Station in Duisburg remains a gigantic brownfield site. However, in the future, a unique shopping and entertainment experience could revive the urban wasteland: the cultural and retail world of Multi Casa. Essentially, the design is the creation of a stable and flexible spatial extension to the city-centre. The external form of the building is impressive: a series of wave-like steel sheds enclose the curved form of the interior to give the building a sense of order; the vertical spaces between the shed roofs are glazed, which allow light to enter into the building. Simple concrete floor slabs ensure flexible internally. The upper floors can be extended as required. The landscaping played an important role in the development of the project: planting in various areas of the Multi Casa generate a pleasant atmosphere, and the creation of green oases at the forecourt to the rail terminal, returns an element of nature to the city.

»The simple solution often turns out to be economically, ecologically, functionally and aesthetically unbeatable. But it has to be very well-founded. «Hadi Teherani
